The Recipe for a Good Life

  Or: what I figured out after someone tried to ruin my day... I had a run-in recently with someone who has made bitterness into a personality. You know the type. The kind of person who can't let a good thing pass by without putting a small crack in it. I walked away from that interaction with my face hot, replaying it, thinking of all the sharp things I could have said and didn't. I spent about a day in that spiral. And then somewhere around midnight — because that's when I do my best thinking — it occurred to me that every clever comeback I'd been drafting was just another way of handing that person my evening.
