Monumental Scale

Every Tuesday, I post an art prompt to spark a little bit of inspiration for your creativity. These posts are versatile and can be applied to a variety of creative mediums. Whether you enjoy digital art or acrylic painting (or anything in between like tags, mixed media, collage, etc), these fun prompts will help you generate ideas for a new project, or maybe add a fun spin to a current project.

For this week, we are going to use the idea of monumental scale as our inspiration.

The Prompt: Use the statement "the smallest thing here is now the largest" as inspiration for creating an art piece. Take something ordinary and overlookable and render it enormous — the size of a cathedral, a mountain, a moon. It could be a sewing needle rising out of a field like a monument, a single strawberry the size of a house, a thimble people shelter inside when it rains, a paperclip looming on the horizon at sunset, a moth with a wingspan wide enough to shade a whole town. Let your interpretation lead you. Make sure your artwork features one small, everyday object made monumental, and for a creative twist, include something at its true size nearby — a person, a ladder, a bird, a doorway — so the eye can measure the impossible against the familiar.

Ordinary things get invisible from looking at them too long. This week, make one of them impossible to ignore.
